Husky House was founded as a 501c3 nonprofit organization by Lorraine Healy to rescue and shelter stray, abandoned, and unwanted Siberian huskies. However, they actually help all breeds of dogs who need a second chance at finding a place to call home. In addition to their rescue work, Husky House is dedicated to furthering public education about proper pet care and the importance of spaying and neutering.

Husky House’s day-to-day operation relies heavily on a network of foster parents/homes. There are thousands of homeless huskies and husky mixes sitting in shelters on death row right now, and Husky House uses foster homes to save as many of them as they can. Husky House currently needs fosters for puppy and adult Siberian huskies and husky mixes. Specifically, they need fosters experienced in working with dogs who have special needs and/or behavioral problems. They also need fosters who can house pregnant dogs and entire husky families until the pups are 8 weeks old. If you have the time—and the space in your home—to dedicate to fostering, and you want to make a difference in the lives of these special dogs, please consider filling out a fostering application.

When it comes to operating costs, Husky House relies on individual donations, but they also run an innovative dog boarding/day camp called Snowdog Lodge that helps to fund their rescue efforts. Snowdog Lodge is the only nonprofit facility in the area, and while boarding/day camp services at Snowdog Lodge are free to Husky House foster animals, pet parents in the community pay competitive rates for services such as overnight boarding, half-day and full-day camp, grooming, and training, and the profits go directly to pay for the food, supplies, and veterinary costs for the animals fostered by Husky House volunteers. So when your pet visits Snowdog Lodge you are helping to save the life of another animal in need!

Snowdog Lodge’s goal is to provide a place where dogs will love to visit. They know how important our pets are and they work hard to give pet owners peace of mind when boarding their pet or sending them to day camp. Snowdog Lodge is staffed 24 hours a day by an experienced team of caretakers who love dogs. Their staff and volunteers are dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, shelter, and adoption of unwanted, stray, abandoned, and abused animals. For the safety of the staff and the animals, all boarders and day campers must be up-to-date on their rabies, Bordetella and distemper vaccines. Day campers must be at least 12 weeks old and be spayed or neutered.
